A man whose body was found in a hotel room in Halifax has been named as Jason Lee Ellam.

The body of the Halifax resident was discovered in the Premier Inn at Broad Street Plaza on Friday July 4 at 12.46pm. Mr Ellam had been reported missing from his home earlier that day.

At the time police said they were not treating the death as suspicious and no-one else was being sought.

However, Mr Ellam’s death sparked an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) as the 34-year-old had been arrested two days earlier in connection with an investigation in to the production of indecent images.

The IPCC passed the file back to West Yorkshire Police for a local investigation.

An inquest into Mr Ellam’s death was opened and adjourned by the Calderdale Coroner yesterday.
